When your involved in any sport or recreation you have to be in shape, in every sport you use different muscles and stretches different parts of your body. Even horseback riding requires this, any rider knows to be a good rider you must also be in shape and fit. I have researched and browsed the internet for exercises to help you become a fit and healthy person so you can be a great rider.
Horseback riding typically uses the shoulders, triceps, biceps, abdominals, inner and outer thighs and calves. You can use these exercises to help strengthen these muscles.
Stairs:
If you don't have stairs at your house a stair stepper or even a ladder will do.
Step 1. Walk Up the stairs in your home.
Step 2. Stand on the stair with just the ball of your foot.
Step 3. Slowly stretch downward and lower your heels until you feel the stretch in your calf, then hold for ten seconds.
Step 4. Raise up your tip-toes and hold for another ten seconds.
*Do this fifteen times a day until it's easy, then up it to twenty.*
Wall: - Variation of the stairs
Step 1. Walk up to any wall in your house and put your foot up to it about 1/2 to 3/4 of the length it would be in the saddle stirrup.
Step 2. Lift your foot to the position where it would be in a stirrup.
Step 3. Hold for three seconds and then release.
*Repeat five times and when you get better you can increase the ammount you do daily.*
Beach Ball
*Use any ball as long as it is a foot in diameter*
Step 1. Sit on a hard chair that allows your knees to sit at right angles to the floor.
Step 2. Scoot to the edge of the chair so that your thighs are completely off of it, and place the beach ball between your knees.
Step 3. Squeeze the beach ball between your knees, hold for fifteen seconds, and then release. Do this thirty times per day until it is easy, then increase to forty.
Next I have some very simple exercises you can do, one includes a household item the others are simple. I learned these in 4-h horse club so I hope they will be useful.
Exercise 4
Item(s) Needed: A Canned Good
Exercise four is very easy, all you need is a canned good greens, corn, peas, etc. It is only done in only two easy steps.
Step 1. Take the can and hold it as if it were a weight.
Step 2. Lift the can to your shoulder and take it back down.
*This Will help strengthen your arm muscles.*
Exercise 5
Item(s) Needed: None
Exercise five has no steps, in fact I know you all can do it. These are just simple push ups and sit ups, I was told by my instructor that this will help strengthen your arms aswell.
There are more exercises that anyone can do, all you have to do is research them online. I will give you a few yoga poses to help you strengthen your muscles then I will conclude my article.
Yoga Poses:
These will help you to be relaxed, calm, and fit for your next ride. The First Pose is the "Warrior" below in the photos I have provided a screenshot telling you how to do the warrior. I won't keep you any longer =) for the rest of the yoga poses visit:

I should probably use these. Showing season is coming up for me as I live in Australia and because I sold my horse and are using a friends horse to compete on I am not getting to ride as much so these would help me greatly. Thanks, and well written by the way. :)
