Last week I had the opportunity to visit the top-notch breeding center where my instructor’s daughter works and I was amazed with what I saw and learned during our tour.
Alpha Equine, located in Granbury, Texas is the home to nine champion cutting horse stallions. These nine stallions each have their own individual paddocks and roomy air-conditioned stalls 24/7 and I must say there are treated better than most humans.
During Breeding Season, mares from all over the world are brought to Alpha Equine to be bred with these cutting studs. Even though the stallions are champions at what they do, most of their foals are successful in other sports such as reining, barrel racing, roping, and some even become racehorses! (Yes, there are races for Quarter Horses out there). Occasionally one of the foals will even grow up to be a show jumper!
These are the nine stallions, how old they are, and how much money they have won in competition!
Cats Merada, 11, $177,900
Zack T Wood, 24, $182,423
Peptos Stylish Oak, 13, not shown
Lectric Playboy, 19, $142, 263
Smooths First Tobicat, 5, $10,034 and still competing
Neat Little Cat, 9, $257,437
Smart Little Jerry, 17, $197,639
CD Lights, 11, $234,000
Smart Little Pistol, 22, not shown
Now those are some pretty nice stallions and they are on a pretty nice facility too! Alpha Equine has two stallion barns, three mare barns, a giant hay barn (not to mention Alpha Equine has hundreds of acres of hay fields and grows their own hay!), hundreds of acres of pasture, an entire foal-raising facility across the street, an on-site vet (there 24/7), an electric hot walker, and much much more!
Speaking of foals, we saw tons of them while we were there and I just had to share some pictures with you guys!
And, the main article picture is a picture I took of Zack T Wood while I was there. I also got to see Smart Little Pistol and Cats Merada but they were in their stalls so I couldn’t get a picture without bars being in front of their face! I included those pictures anyways.
So basically, Alpha Equine is a very nice breeding facility that I would definitely breed my mares at if I ever wanted to breed! |

You are probably wondering if you NEED a barrel saddle to compete. Really, any saddle will work as long as it is lightweight and has a tall cantle (or back of the saddle). A barrel saddle would be best, but if you already have a ...
