There are a lot of amazing shots on the web that we all want to use, but there is one little known fact about them; they come with rules. Yes, rules.
Images on Google are not free for the taking. There are some out there that you can use, like the ones on DeviantArt.com, but most of them have copyrights. This means that you can't just copy them to your computer and upload them on another site.
Using copyrighted images can have serious implications. You can get in trouble with the law, in real life.
But don’t get discouraged, there are images that you are allowed to use on Ponybox! To determine what images you can use, just click on them and check their description to see whether it mentions using it on another site. There are very few of these on Google, all of them being ones on DeviantArt. Even onsite on DeviantArt, not all images are useable. They MUST be under the Resources and Stock Images category. To find stock images to use on Ponybox, first type in your search query on DeviantArt. In the sidebar on the left you will see a list of categories.
On the image itself, the owner’s comments should make it clear whether you can use it, but if not the category next to the owner’s icon will tell you.
But wait! There’s more. With almost all stock images comes rules. In the image below, view basic stock rules that almost all the suppliers use.
Adding Credits
Adding credits to an image is easy. Just put the stock supplier’s site name with a little @ after it, with the name of the website they’re on at the end.
Example: Chunga-stock@DeviantArt.com.
A lot of stock suppliers on DeviantArt have added more severe rules, such as no use of their stock on Ponybox, simply because people are not cooperating. Always check the rules of a stock image and most importantly, follow them, to make for a happy stock supplier that keeps uploading great images because they know that they can trust their stock users.
If you are needing an image for your profile picture or banner but can’t find one on DeviantArt with rules that allow you to use it unedited, advertise on the Ponybox marketplace! There are lots of graphic makers out there who will be happy to make you something for a small fee. |
