When I was six years old my parents started me in riding lessons. Being around those horses really helped bring my out of my shell, and without those lesson horses I would not be who I am today. I don't like being around a lot of people and I'm very much a country person, but I'm terrified of being around a lot of people. Horses have helped show me that it is okay to be myself.
When my parents decided to buy my horse, I went through two horses before I found Casey. The first horse was named Bella, but I rightfully renamed her RazMcTaz. She was a crazy, unbroken, mini, 3 year old mare.
I had only been riding for 2 years and I had a trainer try to help me with Razzy. But once she saw Raz her face was just short of turning white as a sheet. She said that Razzy was definitely not a good horse for a little girl.
My next horse was Mr. Fox. To keep things short, he was a 30 year old barn sour horse that was extremely skinny and full of worms. He just wasn't the right horse for me to get started with.
Then came Casey. Casey is a black and white Pintabian mare. She is 13.2 hands and 14 years old, and although she can be a little grumpy at times, she is very sweet. I only ride her on trails, because that is what she likes.
The summer after I got Casey I fell into a bit of depression. My parents would come home at around 6PM and I would basically be so depressed I could barely even make myself go outside to visit Casey. Of course I always did, and it would always cheer me up. I cannot tell what was making me so sad that summer, but it was awful. I basically felt like my insides were knotted up and when I even thought about doing something I just broke down. I remember once during the week when my mom had the day off she asked if I wanted to go up to her friends cabin swimming. The decision was so overwhelming to me that I just broke down crying.
But Casey was always there.
The summers before Casey were never really fun, and I think my anxiety was just building up before I met her. Without Casey I would not have made it. I'm not sure when these issues will subside, but until it does I can count on Casey to be by my side.
