Do you want to go riding? Do you think that you have to travel out to the countryside? Maybe not. Depending on where you live, you may be able to hop on the subway to get to a stable. Many cities have riding academies or stables within their boundaries. Here are just a few of the places where you can experience horseback riding in the city.

Toronto, Ontario
Toronto is the largest city in Canada and the capital of the province of Ontario. Within the city limits are two stables. Sunnybrook Stable is at the north end of the city. Itís been there a long time, and the city has grown up around it. Here you can take lessons or attend a clinic. They also have summer camps and winter events. If you canít drive there, the city transit goes right by the front gate.

The Horse Palace in downtown Toronto is a historical building, as many city stables are. Itís the site of the stabling for the Royal Winter Fair and past Canadian National Exhibitions. Itís within walking distance of many landmarks in the city including the CN Tower and the Sky Dome (Rogers Center). Here you can take lessons, attend clinics, camps and schooling shows. You can also book your birthday party or other celebration here.

New York, New York
Horseback riders have miles of trail to explore within New Yorkís historic Central Park. There are several opportunities to ride in the park, take riding lessons, compete with a team or participate in a clinic. Kensington Stables leads guided trail rides through the park and offers pony rides and parties. And of course, you can tour parts of the park and the city by horse drawn vehicle.

London, England
It just makes sense that there are horseback riding opportunities in London. Not far from the Paddington Underground Station is the Hyde Park Stables. You can go riding in Hyde Park, take lessons and attend clinics. Hyde Park itself is the site of Rotten Row, a track-like section of trail where for centuries, the rich went with their horses to see and be seen. Nearby is the Barracks in Knightsbridge, stabling for the Household Cavalry and within the park is five miles of trail and two outdoor rings. Not far away is the Ross Nye Stables, that offers similar opportunities. Wimbledon Village Stables is on the edge of the city, and accessible by Londonís public transit. This stable offers hacking, lessons, shows, clinics and holiday packages, all within the city limits.

Brisbane, Australia
Brisbane the capital city of Australia and one the largest urban centers in the country, has several riding establishments within its borders. The Royals Equestrian Center is located at the Brisbane Showgrounds. Riding lessons are offered to both children and adults. There are party packages, pony rides, boarding, leasing and custom designed corporate events.

Tokyo, Japan
Imagine horseback riding in the heart of one of the worldís busiest cities. Accessible by Tokyoís public transit, you can enjoy riding on the site of the 1964 Olympics. The Tokyo Riding Club offers lessons, a tack shop and boarding.

Los Angeles, California
Ride right beneath the iconic Hollywood sign or go for a moonlight dinner ride. Sunset Ranch operates on the edge of the city limits, minutes from central Hollywood. They offer lots of packages for tourists to discover historic and hidden Hollywood sites. The ranch itself is home to part of a movie set. There are kids parties, and they even have an Ďevening proposal rideí package, where couples ride to the top of Mount Hollywood and enjoy the sunset. Nearby is Griffith Park, where kids can go for pony rides.
