This week we are posting another email from one of our fans. We get a few of these every month and sometimes we post them here for your amusement. This email was received yesterday from Pat.
Ponybox,
I find it absolutely appalling that you feel it is perfectly fine to allow dangerous and fundamentally wrong training practices to be posted by your members. I'm a regular visitor to your equestrian news section, but after viewing the cart accident article posted earlier this week I can no longer remain quiet. Images of your members practicing dangerous techniques, such as jumping with no hands or bridles is unacceptable. In fact, I can't believe that you have not had your *** sued off and your website shut down. You are promoting the torture of animals and more importantly, the unsafe practice that can result in young riders getting hurt. Horses are meant to be companions, not stunt dummies for your pleasure.
I surely hope you take my email seriously and close your horse news section of this site. I hope you can sleep well at night knowing that you are contributing to the abuse of these lovely creatures. From my observations, your members do not have the training experience necessary to be posting practices for others to follow or imitate.
You need to stick with making games and stay out of the equestrian news business!
Pat
As mentioned above, we get a few angry emails each month, but lately our news section has been a target. At first I assumed it was just the typical emails any website owner receives, but I now feel this is more of a movement by another horse news website to have us shut down. Each month the Ponybox horse news section gains ranking as a leading equestrian news outlet for citizen reporting by our members. I feel this increase in popularity is causing other equestrian news sites to fight back and have us shut down.
Heres another email we received that substantiates this theory:
Article: Tennessee Walker Big Lick Gait Controversy
Also, I'm assuming the jumping with no hands Pat mentioned is meant to be focused at Polo the Weirdo. Her video is below:
We will see where it goes from here, but obviously someone or some company is not happy. |

Oh my goodness - this is INSANITY. If they're so fussed about how "unacceptable" the news content is on here, why they're still reading it. No one is making them, other than themselves. It's time this person/company takes a look at the real world to see that not everything out there is perfectly peaceful and calm. People will do things we disagree with, and there's not much we can do about it.
I personally like the variety of news articles we have on this sight - they're interesting, different and allow me to branch off into different aspects of equestrian life. I'm fully supporting PB on this one. :)

I disagree with this post, yet I can still see the point of it. If you thnk riding is dangerous, stay away from horses! Don't bother about other people, these 'Stunt' riders you're refering to no doubt have supervision and are just trying to expand their riding ability and knolage!
On my THIRD lesson I rode standing in the stirrup without reins. Give me a break!

As an experienced and qualified horse owner/rider/trainer I can only laugh at this email. It has clearly been written by someone with little or no knowledge of horses and their training methods. Perhaps they wrote an article for the news that was rejected or they have their own website in competition with PB and this is a sad (and rather pathetic) attempt to seek revenge or tarnish your good reputation?
With regard to the "cart accident" article, Equestrianism is one of the top most dangerous sports there is and sadly accidents do happen. Even to the most experienced trainers and horses!

Oh, jeez. Some people just really annoy me. They go on and on about how wrong everyone else is, but never stop to consider that they might just be the wrong one.
I would've never considered that this would be a corporate attempt to shut PB down, but if it is...that makes me even more annoyed. Maybe you should try to improve your site, instead of ruining the one that everyone likes. *twitch twitch* I wish I wouldn't get so annoyed sometimes.

okay A: jumping without a saddle/bridle gives up something to work towards. you have to be a strong rider and have alot of trust between you and your horses. if gives to something to work for.
B: differnt. people. train/ride. different. what you think is wrong, could be right to others.
and C: if you dont like it DONT READ IT!!!!!! if its so terrable and everything is just wrong, quit playing ponybox gosh! you dont have to agree with E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G!!!!!!!
quit whining and get over it! everyones different! good lord.....

Whatever these people are trying to do, its pretty lame :P Even if you did shut down PB news (which I hope you won't) that isn't going to change what people do with their horses. Some people just need to grow up & get a life !!

Not one single article about these so called dangerous practices tells anyone to run right out and follow suit, most riding schools that teach English riding do teach riding with out reins and stirrups because it is good practice for balance and to ensure you are using the correct aids and not hanging on the reins for safety, surely if these were dangerous things to do reputable instructers would not teach them

This person is insane! I would like her to tell me what exactly she considers abuse of horses. All the horses are happy, and people are not promoting unsafe riding practices.

I think someone is green with envy. I have to say I have done no hands before and nothing has happened to me, riding without hands isn't dangerous unless you don't have a helmet. You can see polo is wearing one, but some times even if you aren't wearing one nothing happens. Also does no one see the word ACCIDENT in the tile of cart ACCIDENT article? It was an ACCIDENT! It happens all the time even with quote " safe riding " these things happen. This is horse abuse! Horse abuse is when you don't care about them! Such as my mom's friend had a horse who was ABUSED because the old owner had hit her with a baseball bat and had too small of a bit! If you think you know about horse abuse pat should look it up.

I'm sorry for that person, that they can't use a more professional explanation to get their point across. It's also sad that they can't understand how much of a great training tool jumping without hands is it really helps you find your balance so that you don't interfere with your horse. We do not support horse cruelty in any way, shape, or form. This is where many of us learn. So what if there was an accident? There have been many in the horse world, even from some of the most respected of riders. We all make mistakes. But the more important thing is to learn from them.
I'm sorry you feel that way Pat. I just wish you could understand from our point of view.
Jeff: please don't take off the news, I find it very interesting and have learned several different techniques from here.

I can't believe that. Polo had reins (i think) And even if she didn't she must obviously be a great jumper! That is so unfair! Polo is totally a good rider and she is just being spiteful!

That Cart one was mine..
I thought it was a good thing to put on here to show that anything can happen at anytime.
Even with your quietest horse in the barn that has never done anything EVER!

I love jumping and jumping with no hands is not unsafe as long as you do it when you are ready. It is about a bond with a horse and balance plus more. They are sure jealous of our news. They need to go away! I rebuke angry readers who do those kind of mean emails!

Thats so horrid. Jeff knowhat hes talking about around horses and she clearly has no clue about itshowsthat the rider is fantastic at riding with stearing and keeping the horses going with her legs! Pat must always rely on her reins. My instructor says that you cant always rely on your reins, leg is more important.
