If anyone hasn't mentioned this buy a swaddle me blanket and swaddle the baby at nap times and bed time. It makes the baby feel like it's still in your tummy and they sleep longer. We swaddled our son and swayed him back and forth on our laps with a pacifier and he would sleep longer then a baby who isn't swaddled.

never have your house quiet when the baby sleeps - or you will have a baby that wakes up from a footstep

Now I'm not a parent but I think everyone would agree that you should sleep now while you still can haha. Good luck!

Thanks JC, my house isn't really quite with my boyfriend around! I did always think the house had to be quiet when a baby sleeps!

From what I've heard from new moms that I know the 'when baby sleeps mom sleeps' is something you'll want to remember. When baby is awake it will want feeding, changing, holding, more feeding, more changing etc. and then it might cry because it's tired, hungry or needs changing. The only real down time you'll get for a while with a new born is when it is sleeping. So if you sleep when it sleeps then you cane at least get a few hours in during the day.
I'd also suggestion researching things. For example, researching the pros and cons of vaccinating, breastfeeding, physical(a tap on the back of the leg lets say)/verbal discipline, cloth diapers vs disposable diapers and so on. Then before that you may want to research natural births, water births, home births and see which you would prefer. That way you are prepared for everything and you have a lot of time anyway to check things out. :P
And congrats!!!!

Oh, and what JCMeadow said too. If you have a loud house when baby sleeps right from the start (Hoovering, music, people chatting) then baby will be used to it and sleep through loud noises instead of waking up at the first sound of a whisper. :)

I think I've heard that it helps if you have a thunder storm too, they either wont be scared or as scared because they are already used to louder noises.

About what Canyon View said, you may want to be careful about swaddling. Not all babies like to be swaddled, especially fussier or hot (babies that are warm a lot) babies.
