So after the sudden loss of my beloved Java, Ella, our blind mare, was understandably depressed and lonely.
We gave it a week before deciding and Ella has literally spent the last week eating, drinking and standing at Java’s grave. She was breaking my heart even more.
Yesterday, my sister loaned me one of her older mares as a companion for Ella. Jenya is a 20 something an mare that was given to my sister a few years back. Jen had a rough time 2yrs ago when she first came to the family. Turns out she was pregnant with a mule baby. Jen went into labor and after showing signs of distress, my sister took her to the vet clinic. The foal was not developed properly and they had to literally winch it out to save Jens life. She spent 2weeks in the clinic then another 2months under careful strict care. Shes made a full recovery and is just the sweetest mare. True to her qh nature she is calm, almost bombproof and just gets along with everyone.
I miss Java so very much and didn’t want to bring another horse home but Ella needed a buddy and Jen needed a smaller “herd” to hang with. They seem to already have a quiet bond forming. As last night when I did my night check, the two mares were standing together next to Java’s grave, with their heads down like they were including him in the conversation.

Aww poor Ella and Jenya. But it sounds like they are getting along great with each other tho and hopefully it will perk Ella up after her buddy passing :(
Sorry for your loss Santa, I know what he meant to you ♥
He was my world. I fought to hard to bring him home and I am truly blessed to have had the last 2yrs with him.
My old farrier now really good friend is making me something with some of his tail and mane hair. She won’t tell me what just asked me to send her some hair. She did wonders with his bad feet and when she moved away I seriously cried.
