For those who don't know, I work on a Thoroughbred stud. I do a bit of everything but my bread and butter is the yearling prep for the summer sale which ended for us the other day. We bring the potential sale yearlings in around August and start feeding them up, grooming them etc. then in December and January we parade them on the farm for possible buyers.
During this time there was a pretty ugly, weird, dorky, dumb colt that I just fell in love with. He had decent breeding but was just the most awkward, clumsy individual I've ever seen haha.
Usually the yearlings are known by their dam's name, sometimes the sire, but a few get nicknames and I started calling this little fella Moose because of his moose-like nose and goofy personality. It caught on. By the time he sold the other day even the stud manager was calling him Moose XD
He was also parrot-mouthed, had no front teeth, and drooled all the time, so his theme song was Dueling Banjos XD
Young Moose (I have baby pics, just not on this computer):

Enjoying a scratch after a parade at Karaka (and showing off his ewe-neck haha):
More scratches lol:
Moments before he went to the ring and sold for $60,000. He was bought by a group of Australian buyers and will be sent to Queensland in Aussie:
And so ends the epic of Moose! It was bittersweet to watch him go. I groomed him for the ring, he surprised us all selling for that much, then he left during breakfast the next day so I didn't get to see him go. But I'm happy he's going to Aussie because I'll be able to follow him when (if lol) he starts racing.
