Yes, jump items are going to be used for your barn's training ability, not specific horses. Then all your horses will get a boost. :)
But otherwise, yes, add items and your horse isn't natural any more...except for superhorse DNA (which is really nice!) and x-ray items. The most coveted item at the moment, I think, is lucky charms, since we all thought they were worthless but we now know they make a pretty significant difference to your horse's performance score. Otherwise, any DNA item that boosts jumping is a good one to have active.
Foundies are nice for new lines, especially for rare breeds or if you're struggling to find horses yours aren't related to, but the big downside is that they're expensive to make useful, given that there are so many DNA items now, and even most natural horses have DNA inherited from their parents. Totally natural foundies are going to jump poorly, so you'll have to breed in DNA in the next generation. On the other hand, if you do invest in the items, they can be really useful - my last batch of foundies for my rares weren't amazing on their own, but after crossbreeding to supers of other breeds their foals are hitting 90", making them just about even with my older lines from when I started the breed from scratch.

Jump items wont be used on the horses them selves. Go to the horses link at the top, then go to the "Training" tab there.tou will see ahere you can use jump items for each breed.you can use up to 5 per breed.
New lines are good for any breed. Natural foundies it really is the lucl of the draw. If you item them they jave a far better chance of jumping well. I have 16 at the moment but they are for rare breeds

Thank you all so much! :)
If I use jump items, what are the best ones to use? And if I use the items that means they aren’t natural any more, correct?
What are the pros and cons of foundies as well? Do they have decent performance or just luck of the draw? Is it worth getting an already plentiful breed foundation or do people prefer to only use them to bring back dying or extinct breeds?

When it comes to pricing for manips, what I advise doing is make a premade and start the bidding really low, like 50k. This allows everyone to set the price for you and you can find a good price point :)

1) Training - 2/2 means she's hit the max level she can currently reach. To go higher, you need jump items that you can use to increase your personal ability to train to higher levels for a specific breed. After that, you can further increase the max levels for training by having horses meet criteria (like your first of the breed to hit 90"), and turning on co-training on your horses so they can get an extra level (at a cost) from other people. Other than that...it's kind of random whether they go up a level each year or not.
2) Retirement age varies quite a bit. I've had some retire quite young, in their late 20s, but some survive much much longer. The good thing is you can DNA breed from retired horses so they're not gone forever...
3) Is it a super (more than 40 conformation) or has superhorse DNA? SH DNA helps, but isn't a huge boost - if one or the other has better overall DNA that might explain it, or otherwise...again kind of random. Especially before they hit their prime years. I've had several promising looking foals end up just not jumping and some that totally surprised me. Most important DNA to have active is probably Pegasus since it's worth 5 DNA points all on its own.
4) The best registries you can and carrot juice are the big ones. Otherwise get to where you can train to higher levels (training matters) and keep jumping! If you need horses to jump against, PM me and I'll share my jumpoff barn.
5) When I came back to the game I had hardly any PBs on this account and still do by other people's standards, I'm sure, but I've been able to build up a decent stash by selling off extra items and trying to have a few surefire success horses that are bringing in more than I spend on them. Takes a long time, but every little bit helps.
Hopefully that's helpful?
