Not the dumbest question, don't worry...we were all new / returning players who didn't know anything :P
To jump other people's horses -
click the horse that you want to jump, and click on "jump me" choose which horses you want to jump by clicking the box all the way to the right...it takes quite a bit for it to go through, so maybe that's why you're a little confused?
As for your own horses, on the top it says co-training, jump-off, etc just click the jump-off button so it appears green!
Hope this helped!

if there are no boxes you might not have horses eligible to jump certain horses...
does it say "class" or "item" ?

So yeah, "class" means the horse that you are trying to jump is too experienced for you horse & "item" means that either your horse is itemed and the other one is not, if that makes sense. Itemed horses cannot jump natural horses and vice versa. you're just having a problem finding an eligible horse to jump.

Try to jump my horses here - she's natural and hasn't had any jumps yet, so you should be able to jump her

No problem. It's definitely hard to get used to. Just look at whether or not there is a carrot icon next to a horses name...if there is, that means it's itemed. Like I said earlier, if it is itemed and your horse is not, you cannot jump it. & if you see "class", just try to find a horse that isn't jumping as high and you should be able to jump it :)
Good luck :-)
