I haven't been on in awhile. But I still remember how excited I was to start playing back in 2007. This game gave me that "horse fix" I couldn't always get in real life.
I thought talking about our real horses would be a fun way to make some conversation and get to know players again!
What does everyone do get some real-life horse time in?
Do you own, lease, or take lessons? Do you compete, work with horses or are you enjoying them from afar/hoping to get one down the road?
For those who own, what breed(s) do you own?
What do you compete in, or take lessons for?
I currently own a 2019 APHA/AQHA Amber Cream Champagne (Buckskin + Champagne gene) filly named Willow. It's been a fun and challenging experience owning a youngster compared to an older and already trained horse, but I've had great people guiding me who have also enjoyed the journey. She's not the people lover my last horse was, but she has a great mind when it comes to having a job and retains things quickly.
Sadly, she is currently 4,506 Km away (2800 miles) on the opposite side of the country.
I got posted away for work, but I am hoping to have her shipped out next September and sent for saddle training.
My plan is to enjoy trail riding with her and just the general progression in riding.
I would like to also eventually dabble in Ranch Trail, Ranch Riding and possibly Reining with her. I am a ways off from ever competing in Reining, but the barn I'm riding out of now has an awesome reining coach and trainer here. I ride 2x week and would do much more if I could. Their lesson availability is very booked however, so I am grateful to get in the time I can!
That's just a bit about Willow and Myself,
Look forward to reading about everyone else!
Cheers

in hs i had a pure bred arabian and a retired roping horse named joe
I am horseless and have been for about 20+ years now. I miss having horses in my life and if my health allowed me more funds for a horse, I'd do it gladly! lol! Until then I play ponybox for my horsey fix.

We collectively own 5. I have Kasey a bay MFT x Morgan (our best guess) and Duchess a dunn Columbian Paso Fino. my gf has Lacey the palomino QH and Tee-Tee the little red QH. We also have Minnie the Mini who is a senior and was a rescue and really is just a pet. Kasey has done a bit of everything from parades, barrels and fun speed events, hunter paces, cow sorting, all kinds of trails, cattle drives, shes a good lesson pony too! I got her in 2010 as a 6 year old and did all her saddle training myself. Tee-Tee was gifted to me by a friend when her daughter went off to college. Shes getting older now and doesnt have the best conformation so she is retired to very light riding only. She was a halter horse also did western and english pleasure riding but with us only trails. Duchy is my project pony ive had her a year now she will take over as my main once her training is over since Kasey is getting older. She has a lot of brio and when i got her exactly a year ago today my FB reminded me, she didnt know how to walk under saddle. she has calmed down considerably but we still have a ways to go, she still crow hops when she doesnt know where to place her energy and is very buddy reliant though she gains confidence with every ride! im very proud of her. thats her in my icon. Lacey is my gfs project pony she was green when we got her she has come a very long way id say her biggest accomplishments are carrying herself better and gaining confidence on the trails, and getting over her headshyness she came in with. shes a good girl! they want to start doing hunter paces or barrels together or both lol Lacey is very versatile! But for now just trails and playing around on the property. I lease a 10 acre pasture from a dear friend for my ponies. She helps me take care of them, basically your standard pasture board agreement and she drops grain for them too and hay in winter/when needed. its fantastic.
For those who own, what breed(s) do you own?
Oh I got carried away up there and spilled early but we have gaited horses and QHs. all Mares and all under 15hh!
What do you compete in, or take lessons for?
I am a jack of all trades but a star at none LOL dabbled in just about everything but dressage and reining but did it for knowledge gained and fun, never really had the funds or time available to get into showing more than local fun shows. which i hope to soon have the time to get back to doing! Welllll once the greenies are 100 percent LOL.
hope I didnt go on too long I love my ponies. Nice to Meet You!
Soul Barn: Arabians are a fun breed, the barn my Willow is at use to breed Arabians. They still have around 15 there, they were my first main breed on PonyBox, and then I got to take lessons and do my Co-op program for High School at the barn my horse is at.
Wishy: Boo! I'm sorry about your poor health, I'm glad PB helps you get some horse-fix :) I hope you get the time here and there to find a horse to give some pats and scratches too!
Dixie: Wow! That's so great you get to have a whole family of horses and someone to share that with. Thats awesome you have gotten to dabble in so much, I hope one day I get those same oppertunites to try many things for the pure fun of it! How does the gaited horse feel to ride in comparison to a non-gaited? Kacey sounds like she has been a solid horse for the past 11 years :) Duchy has some big shoes to fill! Thank you for sharing!
I have bad knees and gaited horses are a million times better on them than regular for me. Plus a lot of the gaited breeds tend to be spunky and spirited and I love that! Highly recommend riding any if you get the chance!
Awww she sounds lovely and maybe will become a bit more of a people person eventually. My friends cob is similar he adores kids but he's just so chill around his owner, where as my fella is right in your face trying lick you and everything haha.
So my friend has a welsh cob stud in England and I was telling her how much I love buckskins and about 2 weeks later I get a message saying they had a buckskin colt born, and today he's the only buckskin they have had lol. So I bought him at 2 hours old and he arrived in Ireland about 4 and a half months old. He was a bit of a sod at first but as he got older and matured he really settled down. He's now 2 1/2 and so easy going, like I am 30 weeks pregnant and I was just stood behind him yesterday washing his tail, I trust him so much. He apprently should make 15hh but I think 14.2hh/14.3hh might be his max am unsure. We have just done loads of groundwork and bonding as I don't like rushing them. I plan to slowly train him next year probably more towards winter when he's 3 and a half and he will just do light riding for his first year. I'll try and post a picture when am on pc. =D
My plan was to show him in hand but *covid* put a halt to that! Maybe next year...
Ebony: Welsh Pony and Cobs are one of my favorite breeds, Buckskin is also my favorite colour, I am in awe of you! I would love to have a Welshie at some point.
That's nice he has settled down! Hopefully Covid calms down and you'll be able to get in some In-hand showing eventually. Sounds like a good plan! Willow will be about 3 1/2 when she does her saddle training next year too. Congrats by the way! Boy, girl or surprise?
Welsh cobs are so nice, have great temperaments even if they are fire crackers at times lol.
I am just trying upload a photo now need to resize it xD.
I think 3 and a half is a good age for sure!
After two boys we are having a little girl, shocked and excited only about 7 weeks to go :D
Okay am a bad mother and haven't actually got many photos of him this summer. I think this was taken last month tho. Sola and his friend Buddy (who is the horse who isn't mad about people) xD
My neighbors use to breed Welsh Mountain Ponies, the father showed Percherons so the kids had the ponies when they were little to get started with in-hand, cart, wagon etc showing before moving on to Percherons.
Oh! He's so handsome! Look at that pink nose, I love it! and his socks!
Willow looked buckskin as a foal but as she grew the champagne gene washed her out, now she is so light you can't make out her star and stripe anymore, (thankfully her sock is visible!)
I don't remember how to make photos show up, so here is a plain link of her at 1 day old:
