Champion European galloper US Navy Flag surveys his new territory at Valachi Downs Stud in New Zealand, where he shuttled to serve the 2019 season.
A shuttle stallion is highly commercial. They can serve twice as many mares in two different countries/racing areas of the world. Stallions shuttle between the different hemisphere breeding seasons (Northern Hemisphere at the start of the year, Southern Hemisphere at the end of the year). As racing Thoroughbreds can only be served via live cover (no AI) this can add new blood and higher performance to places that have limited access to champion pedigrees.
New Zealand and Australia are both popular shuttle destinations for European and American stallions. Japan and Chile are other popular shuttle countries.
