Three Years Put Into Words - Year Two

I recommend reading year one before you read this year. In my personal opinion, this is my best year. 2008 through the start of 2009. Year two was a huge leap for me. I'd gone from being afraid to being over confident and giddy. Preparing to go to all lengths for my pony.

my first win in show jumping

The trailer issue:
I found out that he had been in a car accident and was left afraid of trailers, he couldn't stand being loaded in a lorry as he has been trailer loaded all his life. That solution went out the window.

I was making progress in my lessons, jumping 2'3-2'6. Confidence rising as I took part in several shows. They were all little shows, local friendly. But it was what I needed, I didn't need my father to keep pushing me. He'd learned with Jerry the hard we, he would loose me if he didn't stop pushing me.

Amongst the shows I had gained various rossets including my first win in show jumping. While it was only at 1'6-1'9 and I did do the last jump hanging around his neck, it was a first. Now your probably wondering why I was hanging around his neck. I had unbalanced myself at fence eight. By the time I'd reached fence nine I still wasn't fully balanced, but I had the confidence to go over it. We made it over the fence, though by doing so I lost both stirrups and clung desperately. Landing on my feet once we were out of the timed section, I stayed on and earned my placing.

New instructor:
I had gained a new instructor by August. Jess, as mentioned in year one, she is Jane's daughter and Toffee's owner. She knew him a lot better than I, after all, she almost took him to the FEI Championships and did novice eventing on him.

By the end of the month Jess had me and Toffee going over a three foot three oxer. My first and second attempt can be seen in the videos below. You can also see the height of some of the fences showing how much I had come on in the small amount of time.

Attempt #1

Attempt #2

There are various images from shows. I did three one day events at Abbottswood as well as two hunter trails. The hunter trial in the September I was lucky enough to be placed fifth. My first and only placing at Abbottswood. It may have only been a fifth, though I as happy that I actually had a placing.

We also competed at Warminster Saddle Club in their one day event. Good dressage,(for me) I don't like dressage, so I aim for anything over 50%. Clear showjumping, three falls in the cross country and bang, confidence gone. But I didn't give up on him.

And that was year two.
Stay tuned for year three+Start of year four!
