My New Colt Named Remington

My name is Lauren, I am 17 years old and live in Ontario, CA. I have been riding since I was 4 and got my first pony when I was 5. Over the years I have shown, bought, sold, and trained horses. I have grown to love and enjoy horses very much. I simply can't wait for November to come! Why you may ask? Well my boyfriend of 6 months whom I love with all my heart (plan on staying with for the rest of my life) has arranged to buy me my own little colt.

It all started in August when he would take me on the tractor with him to do work (cut hay, bale hay, move bales, etc.). He works on a Dairy farm (milks & other barn chores) and a Beef farm (does field work with tractors). He takes me with him all the time and I really enjoy it. His one boss cuts and bales hay for a horse farm. One day I went with my boyfriend to cut some hay and as we were driving through the property to get to the fields I fell in love with a beautiful little colt. He is chestnut with 2 white back socks and a white blaze. When I talked to the owners to my luck they were planning on selling him. A Tennesse Walker Stallion that they have happened to get loose and breed to a Quarter Horse mare they took in. These are the colts sire and dam of course. Since the owners only want to breed purebred Tennesse Walkers & Friesians, this little colt was something they did not need.

My boyfriend knew I really liked the baby and being the great person he is, arranged to buy it for me as an early Christmas gift.

I could't be happier and I am counting down the days. The breeding isn't anything special in my opinion, but its the heart behind the gift that makes me love it even more. I've had horses bought for me by my mother in the past, but I never got attached and they didn't mean that much to me. Usually I would get a horse, put miles on it, and then sell it months later. I did this simply because I wasn't attached to the horse, it wasn't what I was looking for, or someone could put more use into it. I have only had one baby before (appaloosa colt, chestnut with 4 white socks and a white blaze), I loved that horse and worked with it till it was perfect (clipped, tied, bathed), he was even so quiet that my 7 year old cousin could walk around on him and lead him by herself(she was never around horses). The only issue with him was that he never dropped, and it would cost $800 for surgery. That was money I didn't have and my mom didn't want to pay. He was perfect until when he was rising 3 years old he randomly got violent, ran down my mom and started to strike out. With his condition the vet told us they are more dangerous than regular stallions. With disappointment I had to get rid of him. I still miss him and hope he is doing well.

With my new colt I plan on using him for Showing and Eventing, which should be fun. Me and my boyfriend decided to call him Remington. Soon comes November and I will be a proud owner of a beautiful little colt (he should finsh between 15.1 & 16 hands). I hope you enjoyed my post & like my photos.
