A Little Girls Life with Horses

The hardest thing was letting Flicka go. At the age of 23 Flicka died of liver cancer, she was the best horse ever known. She was rode for years, and years, she was trusting, she was the kind of horse you could put a child on and leave knowing they would be safe. But then she died, life was like taking a breath with no air.

I didn't think I could find any other horse that I could love just as much as I loved her. But six months later I found one. Flickas daughter Whoopi. Whoopi was known to everyone as the "brat", and I was going to change that, or at least I thought I was. I thought of her as the perfect horse. I could run her, jump her and do anything while feeling completely safe, but I was wrong. Whoopi soon started rearing, high or low.

She started getting scary and was no longer safe to ride.

Winter came and I stopped riding her. I had no clue what I was going to go for the entire winter not being able to ride her. Then Christmas came around, my favorite time of the year. Christmas of 2009 turned out to be the best Christmas ever. I got a gorgeous, pure black, fox trotter, registered, 13 year old mare who I named JennyLyn. She wasn't trained and I was the one who had to train her. It took about three months before I was riding her. Life was once again great, no it was amazing.

About two months after that on May 6, 2010 the most random thing happened. JennyLyn had a baby filly. Pure black, looking just like her mother. I named her Surprise. I trained Surprise to lie down and also bow by the time she was five months old. In the meantime JennyLyn was getting amazing, I would ride everyday and soon she was going bridle-less. Nobody could guess a little girls life could be "just a horse!".
