As a graphic maker I am often asked the question "What program do you use?" And while it's simple for me to reply "Adobe Photoshop", I considered it well and truly time to find an answer to the question at hand. Just what is the best free online editing program?
SplashUp
www.splashup.com
SplashUp is an online photo editing and managing tool. It offers many tools, functions and settings with similarity to those on Adobe Photoshop (though not as extensive) as well as a variety of editing techniques including processes such as cropping, cutting, and transforming. More advanced options such as blur and sharpening filters are also available. The program itself is both clear and concise to use, and its attractive layout makes it that little bit more fun.

pixlr
www.pixlr.com
pixlr is a simple online editor and photo enhancing tool. Its simply library includes the tools vital to photo manipulation pencil tool, cropping, lasso tool and eraser, as well as a selection of fun filters. However, in terms of graphic making, these tools are unlikely to assist you in the graphic making career as they lack the professional appearance desired by most customers. In spite of this, pixlr is sure to be a program useful for eye catching banners and texts.

flauntr
www.flauntr.com
flauntr, though advertised as an online editing program, doesn't have anything that I could identify as graphic making tools. Not even those simple, expected tools such as the lasso tool. Despite the fact the homepage promises 'photo editing features similar to Photoshop', it appears to lack such features. In terms of graphic making, this program is not recommended.

SumoPaint
www.sumopaint.com
SumoPaint is a bit of a hidden gem- its an online editing program that doesn't appear often in the graphic making limelight- in spite of the impressive tools it offers. Like SplashUp it utilises any settings similar to Adobe Photoshop, but has a much larger variety on offer. As well as the tools you'd expect a image editing program to include, SumoPaint offers an extensive library of filters, to list a few 3D Effects, Distort, Edge Detection, Lighting Effects, Texture and more. Furthermore, handy Adjustment settings such as Colour Balance, Curves, Hue/Saturation and Levels give greater ease to photo editing. Without a doubt try out the 'Symmetry Tool' if you have the chance to test this program... it will bring you hours of entertainment!
Requirements: Flash
Rating: 4 Star
fotoflexer
www.fotoflexer.com
fotoflexer is an online image editor and drawing application that offers some graphic editing tools. Users can edit multiple layers, adjust them accordingly and, using the eraser tool, cut the desired aspects from a selected image. Animations including stars, butterflies and flowers are also available. However, in comparison to the other programs listed, the filters and settings that can be applied to layers is limited.
Requirements: Fast internet connection
Rating: 2 Star
These reviews are my own opinions, it’s now up to you to try them out and discover which program is best suited to your capabilities. Good-luck! |

I use SumoPaint. It works quite well, although some things are hard to figure out. It took me a good bit of time to figure out how to layer pictures from the computer, and when it did happen, I kept erasing the background with it. I think I've figured it out now, haven't tried yet.
