My Dream Is To Ride Again

Horse Accident

It been about 5 months since my accident. I have not ridden or walked in a long time. I yearn deeply to do both. Every time we drive by a pasture filled with horses it fills my heart with excitement. Since my car accident I have not moved my legs. It was devastating to learn that I was paralyzed having my entire life torn away from me. As a result I'm relearning everything, just like a toddler.

This was not the life I dreamed of.

On September 19th, 2010 I was in a car accident. My Chevy S10 truck fishtailed and lost traction on the road. It went off the road flipping on its side hitting a tree. The impact with the tree caused my side of the truck to pin me between my seat and the steering wheel. I was trapped. My passenger escaped out the back window with no injuries. I broke many ribs, my scapula, and my back.

Breaking my back damaged my spinal cord, paralyzing me. I went into a 10 hour surgery when they starting fixing my back and a week later they did another surgery to finish that took another 8 hours. I spent a little over 2 months In the hospital.

I now realize what all those quotes about living life to the fullest mean as well as not taking things for granted. In an instant your dreams can be gone. As I slowly adjust to my new life I'm making strides to get back into the saddle again.

I will never give up.

Always remember that when you dream, chase it and donít let it go. My dream is to ride again.

I can still remember the feeling of freedom and happiness I get when I sit on a horse. I remember every stride, every hoof beat and I know before long I will ride again. So the next time you get to ride, clean stalls, feed, groom, or other activities with horses consider yourself lucky. Be thankful for what you have and live life to the fullest and treat everything like a gift.

Have you looked into theraputic riding at all?? I worked at a stable that had paralized riders come often. It would be the same at riding by yourself but it would be better than not at all!! I hope you get better and are renewed to your former strength!

That brought tears to my eyes.
With the determination you have, I know it will only be a matter of time before your walking and then riding.
This is a much needed reminder for all of us to appreciate what we have.

No Walkin Farms9
I was in Fred Meyer's a couple months ago, right before Thanksgiving. I walked by the bulletin board of community announcements and one flier caught my eye. I recognized the photo on it. I'd seen it here on PB. I confess it kinda freaked me out. That was the first I'd heard of your accident.

I'm so sorry about what happened. I'm sorry you can't walk. My best friend had cancer and it prevented her from walking. She was miserable. As someone who's seen that up close, I can understand what you're going through. I'm praying for you.

You told me exactly what I needed to hear. I am taking my horses for granteed. I am too lazy to bear the winter to go see them, I haven't seen any since New Years practically. I am too wound up here and also just lazy.

I need to start being with mmy horses.
