Broken SpiritsKendra walked out of her 4th period class sighing heavily. She liked all her teachers so far. She was just already stressed about the piles of home work. She looked at her schedule and found she had art next. Her best subject. She found her class and took a seat near the front.
“Is this seat taken?” a small voice asked. Kendra looked around and saw it was Kelly. Kendra shook her head and Kelly plopped down. Kendra looked around the room. There was a white board and chalk board in the front, pictures on the walls from various artist, a glass case full of trophies and sculptures, a canvas and sculpting section and a small desk in the back corner of the room. “Are you trying for advanced art?” Kelly asked. Kendra hadn’t really thought about it. Why not?
“I might” Kendra said.

Mrs. Applewood walked in and started going over the rules.
“If you are trying for advanced art please take a form. You are to take a form and draw what ever you wish. Turn it in at the end of class. The rest of you are to draw what is shown in this picture.” She said pointing to the picture of an open field full of wild flowers. It hung in the front of the room on the white board. One student had raised their hand.
“What if we cant see the picture?” he asked. “Then you come up and observe it.” Said Mrs. Applewood. And with that almost every one got up to look at the picture. Some others were standing in line to take a form. Kendra took one and sat back down. She thought for a moment and began sketching. She was so lost in her work she didn’t know it was time to leave until Kelly tapped her on the shoulder. Startled, Kendra dropped her pencil and watched it roll off the desk and onto the floor. Kendra looked up from her paper and saw it was Kelly. The class room was empty except for them and the teacher.

“Girls? Is there a problem?” Mrs. Applewood asked. “No” they both replied. Kendra got up from her seat and handed Mrs. Aplewood her paper. She glanced at it and winked at Kendra. Kendra smiled back knowing that things just might work out. Kendra and Kelly left the room and went to the cafeteria. The room was big and smelled of tacos and different perfumes. There was a line in the back where kids stood and waited for their food and a cart full of snacks off to the side. Kendra felt small and wasn’t sure what to do next. A couple girls sitting by a big window waved at Kelly and she walked over to them. Kendra stood in the door way about to walk away when Kelly motioned her to come and sit with them. Unsure about meeting Kelly’s friends she walked slowly to the table. She accidentally bumped into a boy with a tray full of Mexican food. His tray dumped a bit of his food onto the floor where it was then crushed buy some other students.

“I’m sorry!” Kendra said. “No I’m sorry, I’m such a klutz!” said the boy. Kendra looked at him. He was a tall with messy brown hair and daring green eyes that flickered with mischievous. He had an even tan and was wearing a blue polo shirt with khaki shorts. He smiled at Kendra. She smiled back feeling a bit nervous. “Names Kevin.” He said smiling.
“Kendra.” She said.
"New?" he asked. She nodded.
“Cool, guess I'll see you around.” Said Kevin. He gave Kendra a wink and walked away with what he had left of his food. Kendra felt heat rise to her cheeks as she walked toward Kelly and her friends. “OMG!” one of the girls screeched. "He just winked at you!” she screeched again. Kendra just stood there not sure whether she should sit or not. Kelly patted the chair next to her motioning Kendra to sit next to her. One of the girls was still babbling about the wink and the way the boy flirted. Kelly rolled her eyes and whispered to Kendra. “Just ignore her. She’ll be talking about something else in a sec.” she said it loud enough for the girl to hear.
“I heard that!” she said smiling.
“Good.” Kelly said in a playful tone. Kendra shifted in her seat not sure what to say. “Guys, this is Kendra. She’s new her at Aspen Creek High.” Kelly said making a gesture at Kendra. “Kendra this is Macy, Sarah, and Chloe.” Kelly pointed at each of the girls across the table. Kendra looked at each of them with a smile. Macy was a cute brunettes with sharp icy blue eyes. Her skin was flawless and her shoulder length curls bobbed as she moved her head. She had the perfect golden tan and not a tan line in sight. Sarah was a bit on the pale side and her long dark red hair fell flat and shinny across her back. She too had her bangs up in a clip. She had pretty spring green eyes and light freckles on her face. Chloe had Asian brown skin and dark almond shaped eyes. Her long black hair was up in a low ponytail. She seemed full of curiosity and eagerness.

“So where are you from?” asked Sarah. “Umm...” Kendra stuttered a bit. “Connecticut.” She said finally. “Oh wow, what part?” Macy asked. Kendra thought a moment. For some reason her mind went blank. How could I not remeber where I live?! “I’m not sure. Its been a while.” Kendra lied.
“So what brings you to Richmond, VA?” asked Macy.
Kendra squirmed uncomfortably in her seat. She didn’t like telling people she was here because her parents were divorced and it was just a “temporary” placement. Kelly noticed Kendra shift uncomfortably in her seat. “I don’t care what you’re here for, I’m just glad I found a new friend. These guys were getting boring.” She said. Kendra noticed how she put an emphasis on new.
“Hey!” the girls said in unison. Kendra giggled and the others joined her. “Hey sweet thang!” a male voice said. Kelly groaned and covered her head with her arms.
“Oh nooo!” she moaned. A tall cute guy approached the table holding a tray of salad. He was wearing a plad shirt cover with a white t-shirt underneath. He wore dark demon jeans and had on some kind of leather shoes. He had dark brown eyes and a dark farmers tan. He had an olive green holed hat with dark brown hair poking out from underneath. He grabbed a chair from another table and sat on it backwards as close to Kelly as he could. She sat up and just looked at her friends for help. They just shrugged. He put his arm around her and held her close. Kendra didn’t know what to think.
“Who are you?” she blurted then feeling embarrassed by her out burst.
“Well ,well ,well!” He said. “Another pretty lady for the Mike man!” he said. Kelly managed to pull away from him.
“Go away!” she hissed.
“Hey lets not gat hasty here!” He said.
“I wanna know who this lovely lady is.” He said rubbing his hands together before he picked up his fork. Kendra just gave him a blank look. She crossed her arms and sat back in her chair with a raised eye brow. The bell rang and all the girls left the table as quickly as they could.
“Hey!” Mike said. But no one heard.
