My First Horse Show

"Dana, our show is today." A voice said, and my eyes popped open. I hopped out of bed and stared at Molly, nearly smiling my face off. It was about 5:00 am, and I was pumped for one of the biggest day of my life. My First Horse Show, December 12, 2010.

My First Horse ShowWe got dressed, putting on our breeches and show shirts, putting a sweatshirt and pajamas over the clothes. After brushing our teeth, we put our hair in perfect buns, grabbed our things and Molly wrote "It's Show Time." On the white bored, and we smiled at each other, and ran out the door heading to the Tacoma Unit.

We soon got there and met up with my parents. We got our numbers and met up with our friends. We started grooming and tacking at about 7:15. I brought Pepper into the warm up arena and circled around the arena, and headed for a jump. I wasn't really into it, and to be honest, I wasn't riding very well. I guess it was the nerves and I was so tired (Nice excuse, huh? Haha). When we got to the jump I didn't have enough power and she stopped at last minute, leaving me flying over her neck. I got back on and did it again and again, getting it now. They announced my name and number as second, and I trotted into the arena. I could feel Pepper's nerves through the saddle. I turned her to the first jump. About 5 strides away, she stopped and moved away. We did this a few more times, until the judge told me to ride to the other end of the arena. I was as embarrassed as I could be. In the middle of the arena Pepper slowed a bit, so I gave her kick. Apparently, that was it for her. She came to a immediate stop and turned to the side, sliding on her back legs. I flew off the side, landing on my feet with the reins in my hands. I couldn't resist not smiling. I walked Pepper out of the arena after the judge thanked me. As I walked out, I held my crop in the air, and smiled, listening to the crowd laugh. I turned to Pepper and stroked her neck. I guess I wouldn't mind having an awesome fall instead of a ribbon.

Next, I would have another jumping class on Pepper. I wasn't feeling confident enough after what happened earlier, so I scratched that class, feeling sad. I remembered I still had 2 classes in a few hours. We untacked the horses to give them a rest, and to rest ourselves. We had something to eat and soon it was time to tack up the horses again, and my classes where coming up soon. After some of the younger kids at the barn had their walk classes, it was time for my first equitation class on Pepper. It was Super Senior. I was a little more confident as I walked into the arena. There was only a few riders and the judge told us what to do. While I was trotting, Pepper decided to walk. I didn't have the crop with me, so I kicked her as hard as I could (Not trying to hurt her) but she still wouldn't budge. A horse passed us and Pepper trotted after the horse, and I knew that wasn't a good thing. Soon, the class was over and I got 4th.

After waiting a bit, it was time for my other class. I walked into the arena confidently. There where about 20 other people in this class. Soon, that class was over and I was feeling pretty good about myself. I waited impatiently to hear what place I got, and I was excited to hear I got 5th place. I was practically jumping with joy (except I was on a horse so I couldn't. I lead her out of the arena and untacked her, feeling very proud of myself. We loaded up the horses and it was time to go home. I was exhausted, but I am very excited for the next show I get to be in.
