Ponybox Letter Of Correction For Abused Circus Horse Story
 By PonyBox   •   23rd Jul 2011   •   10,959 views   •   29 comments
Recently, Ponybox published a member submitted story concerning citizen reporting of abused circus horses. This story received a lot of member comments and concerns and has generated a lot of heated topics concerning the treatment of animals in performing roles, such as circuses. Since a majority of posts on Ponybox are member submitted, we can't always attest to the veracity of the story, but in some occasions we will deny or remove stories that we feel may have inconsistencies or other contributing factors questioning their validity.

Abused Circus Horse Story

This week Ponybox LLC received a letter from the Kentucky Horse Council questioning the authenticity of the abused horse in question.

Dear Ponybox,

The Kentucky Horse Council was recently alerted to a false claim on the Ponybox site title "Ponybox Member Goes Undercover To Expose Five Abused Circus Horses".

While we cannot attest to the story itself, we can assure you that the photograph used is not of any horse rescued from this circus. That horse is named Rascal and he was a Kentucky victim of neglect. He was confiscated from his owner in September 2009 and a member of our staff personally provided for his care from September 2009 through November 2009. That particular photo of Rascal was taken by the Kentucky Horse Council staff upon his arrival at his foster home in Kentucky.

His true story can be seen online at

If you have any further questions, please contact me.

Ponybox would like to thank the Kentucky Horse Council for bringing this to our attention and their continued effort in Kentucky's Neglected and Abused Horses. We apologize for the misrepresentation and will definitely be more vigilant in the future in screening member submitted posts.

So from what I understand the article was false? A lie?
  Jul 23, 2011  •  6,016 views
It's genuinely sad that someone would go so far as to lie about "going undercover to rescue abused circus horses". Really, she had to go so far just to get some attention? I would have never known, as I haven't come across that photo before. But it does make sense. Now that that particular member has been caught, perhaps she will think more carefully about the stories she might attempt to submit in the near future.

Lying never solves anything, or benefits anyone......especially when you are caught.

Who would do that?! She just wanted to seem like a hero I guess...

This has been dicussed a lot on the forums, a PonyBox member discovered the site and Sophies friend in real life also claimed the story to be false. This needed to be posted to make everything clear, and I'm glad the article has finally been removed.
There is no reason anyone should have to lie like this, and her other article about the palomino QH was also false. Jeff if you are reading this-the pictures (which show TWO DIFFERENT horses one of which I found on Google) on that article gave away that it was a lie. Please remove this article also :)

Thank you so much for posting this. I have seen so much debate on the forums and on the original article. I admit I thought the article was true for about a millisecond. But the writers account just didn't add up. Why anyone would feel the need to lie like that is beyond me. Glad to hear that the real horse in the story was rescued and taken care of properly.

I'm really glad about this, as I know Sophie P in real. I know that she was lying, and she does do this often. I'm glad that she has been caught, for once.

Another example of the boy who cried wolf.. Not only can this person make it were not a single person can trust the words they type or say, but also could cause more problems with whom ever owns the actual horse in the photo. Granit yes the horse is more likely living a healthy life but still. Why someone would make up such a horrible story is beyond me.

i dont understand why anyone would make up a story about neglected horses, you shouldnt make up a story about something so sad and say its true. Neglected horses (or any animal really) shouldnt be a topic that poeple mess around with its just sad
