We were flying to the jump, head over heels. Towards the white and blue vertical that was blocking us. It was about 3.5 feet high. We were cantering as fast as we could when we hit. I flew off into the fence, people rushing towards me. I couldn't see Popcorn anywhere, which had scared me even more. Pop had went to the other side of the ring, searching frantically. I was in pain, and couldn't move a muscle.
"Perimedics will be here in a minute honey. Stay with me." My mother had said to me calmly.
I started to freak out more, trying to get up. I felt paralyzed, couldn't move a thing. I just laid there on the white sand, while my life went before my eyes. Then everything went black.
The Hospital
I awoke from my seeming never-ending sleep. I was looking up, staring at the green hospital wall. I started to freak out, thinking that no one was there to help me, and started screaming.
"HELP! HELP!" I yelled, thinking that no one would here me.
Almost immediately, three nurses came into the pale green room. One with my medicine, one with a pack of ice, and one with a syringe. I shrieked even more when I saw the syringe, having a fear of needles. I threw my hands in the air, and then everything settled. I had stopped screaming, my hands were by my sides, and my eyes were settled on a nurse putting ice on my head. 'I had just had my first panic attack' I thought to myself. I saw the first nurse that came in putting medicine in my IV.
"Everything is going to be OK, sugar. Now just stay still. It is fine. We will stay with you." The first nurse said in her country accent.
She sounded like she came from Tennessee.
"OK." I mumbled, looking down at my hands.
The third nurse whispered something to the other ones and walked away. I relaxed, thanking God silently that the needle wasn't for me.
"Thank you." I said to both the nurses, my voice hoarse from screaming.
I saw my sister, Ashley, walk in awkwardly. Ashley walked to my bedside on my left, and sat on the bed, looking like she didn't even see the two nurses.
"Sorry I was the only one to come. Carli, Mom, and Dad were busy. I was the nice one and got off of work for you." She said to me, grinning.
Like she was pleased that she was nice enough to come. I nodded my head weakly, pain shot up the back of my neck.
"So how are you feeling?" Ashley said, looking in my eyes, then down the rest of my body.
"Not good." I said, almost soft enough that I was whispering.
Ashley was about to say something when a blond-hair middle-aged man walked in, obviously the doctor.
"Ms. Elizabeth?" The doctor said as I turned my head slightly to look at him.
"Yeah?" I said and looked at Ashley and then at the doctor again.
"You have four broken ribs and a concussion. Do you remember things that happened?" The doctor asked me.
"Going over a jump, then falling." I said then looked down at my hands, pain shooting up my neck again.
"Can I excuse your guest for a bit?" The doctor said.
I nodded my head painfully again. Ashley got up and walked out of the room, turning around to blow me a kiss before she left.
"Elizabeth, I am Dr. Liam. "You may have to take a break from riding for a while." Dr. Liam said as my heart sunk.
"Stop riding? Are you serious!" I screamed at him.
I sunk back in my pillows and started to cry.
"I am sorry." He said and looked at the nurse.
I folded my arms tightly across my chest and looked down at my broken body. Then he slowly walked out, not giving any more information out to me.
2 Weeks Later...
I finally got back home and started visiting Pop every now and then. I still can't ride, but I am gradually getting better. I go to the doctor every couple weeks for him to check my ribs to see if they had healed. Two have healed, two haven't. It is still uncomfortable in this stupid body cast that the doctors had put me in. My doctor had estimated that I can ride again in about a month, when my ribs will be completely healed. My headaches and nightmares don't go away all the time, but you can blame my concussion for that. My mom says I wake up screaming sometimes, but then just fall right back to sleep. I am thankful I will have the chance to ride Popcorn again, and hopefully I get better as time goes by. |

Oh my god it must of been so scary. I have panic attacks a lot for different reasons and I HATE them. I hate that icy cold feeling you get and then you start to shake. I feel so bad that you can't ride your horse. Get well soon.
