Save A Horse App Earns Its Keep

Save A Horse AppAll horse lovers appreciate the work that a horse rescue does and when that rescue goes global by being featured on an app it's something that us horse techies tend to pay attention to. Grey Horse has a new app out called Save A Horse and it's described as the Irish Horse Welfare Trust App. For anyone that doesn't know what the IHWT is, they are a rescue group in Ireland dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating horses that have been neglected, abandoned or abused. After the horses are out of the danger zone, the IHWT finds them a new home. They do a great job and work completely as a charitable organization. Many horses owe their lives to these wonderful people.

What The Save A Horse App Is
The description was kind of vague but it appeared that it was about IHWT, which was interesting enough to warrant a download. When you open up the app, it gives you an index page that includes buttons for the expected information about the organization such as general information and how to join, sponsor a horse or volunteer but it also has a ton of information about actual horse care.

You can get to this information by clicking the “Horse Management” button. Once you open that page, you're on another index page and you can read about really cool topics such as grass kept horses, nutrition, hot weather care and dental care. The information's not fluff either; it's accurate and interesting.

Another really cool button on the “home page” of the app is the “good news stories.” This little page tells you about some of the horses they've rescued and where they are now. It's nice to read about happy endings and that seems to be what this organization is all about.

The app ran great and loaded quickly on my Nexus S. The pages were designed well though there aren't really any pictures. However, if you would like to see pictures of the rescued horses and of the ranch itself, they have a great website that you can go to. The only real downside to this app is that it doesn't have a way to donate or link to the website straight from the app. That would be ideal and maybe if it had these features, more people would break out their checkbooks. The app's probably not going to be a permanent addition, but it's definitely worth downloading just for the information. If it had the links or was a little more interactive, it would be a keeper for sure.
