I have always had a love for horses ever since I can remember. My Mom had horses when she was growing up and was in 4-H. I had my first ride when I was four on a black tennesse walker named Casie, a champion Tennessee Walker.
I loved it.
I didn't get to ride again until I was about seven and it was on a friends horse named Dandy. I was really excited and happy because I would get to ride all by myself this time. Unfortunately, I ended up falling off after the reins slipped out of my hands.
Over the next few years I rode here and there, but nothing really worked out. 2011 turned out to be a tough year with my only living Grandma getting breast cancer in January and my brother moving back home this summer with his two kids after he had some problems. I felt really down and had been watching Fallon Taylor, a four time NFR qualifier on Youtube. She sells and trains barrel horses plus she rodeos in her spare time. I knew I wanted one of her horses as soon I watched a couple of her videos, but the reality was that we didn't live in the country and my Dad wasn't to fond of the idea.
On Thanksgiving, Fallon had one of her special deals of the day on Facebook and it was a horse that I had been looking at for a while. I prayed the night before about that horse, hoping we could find a way to get it. I wrote the price down and quickly figured out how many chores and odd jobs I would need to accomplish to get this horse.
I thought I did not have a chance, but sent Fallon an offer on Facebook for the horse. When I woke up on Black Friday I immediately got on my Facebook to see that Fallon tagged my name on the post and gave me a number to call and claim the horse!
I cried!
I could not believe that the horse was mine! my Mom and brother were crying also. After the shock of getting the horse I had to figure out were I was going to keep him and how I was going to get him home. It took me until the first of December to find a hauler and organize the move. He was in the trailer and leaving Texas on Friday December 9th and arrived at the place I'm boarding him the next day. He came to me all in one piece and we got to see each other for the first time! As soon as the hauler handed the lead rope over to me it was like he knew I was his owner. After I got him settled I turned him loose in the arena and watched him roll. I'm sure he was glad to get off that trailer. He followed me around like a little puppy.
Here is some info about him:
Name: Phoenix Rising
Age: 4 year old
Gender: Gelding
Height: 15.3 hands
Registration: APHA registered Grullo
Sire: Sire Paws Pocket Watch
Dam: Tardys Little Cowgirl
His bloodlines go back to Poco Bueno on his fathers side. I can't wait to see how things go with him! he can be a 1D barrel horse if I train him right!
Congrats! Fallon is a really nice lady, with some nice horses. Your horse looks awesome, seems mature for a 4 year old. I have a 6 year old 2D horse that I trained, and she is still growing into herself and maturing.
If you need and help or tips on training, I'd be glad to help! :)

Congrats!! That looks like a really awesome horse! Just curious though... How much do you know about horses considering you haven't ridden a whole kit before buying a horse and you have never taken lesson or anything? Like you have to know a lot about riding and barrel racing in order to "train right" a 4 year old. Plus a 1D barrel horse usually needs a pretty experienced rider. I mean, I don't know about you or your riding skills but from what I have read in your article it just makes me wonder. But good luck! I hope this horse works out for you! That's really cool how you got the horse and all!

My horse Phoenix was a barrel horse I got from Fallon Taylor. My story with my pride and joy came to a close on April 26, 2013. The day before was a beautiful day and it was warm enough that I didn't even have to wear a jacket. Th ...
