Looking For The Perfect Horse

Looking For The Perfect HorseI gave up my dear Toff in June 2011. I was depressed and feeling down and began to really not care about things any longer. Toff was my baby and I trusted him with my life, he was my everything. I lost Toff when his owner moved him away and it was just to far to continue riding. I cried for days and grieved for months. It's only in the last week or so that I've stopped crying at the mention of Toffee's name.

I have attempted to find a replacement to ride the past few months, but I just wanted interested and couldn't find the connection with another horse. Once of the horses I tried was a cob, but he had a tendency to be mean which resulted in me dislocating my shoulder. This injury put a stop to my riding for a few months. For once, I did as I was told and took four months away from riding, but still kept looking for the right one.

All I wanted was a horse over the age of six, that did not buck, jumps well, wasn't green or strong willed, but had a bit of personality. I'm not picky.

I continued searching on local web sites and even placed an ad. I messaged a few people what I wanted, but didn't get much of a response. Finally, last month someone came forward with a horse that may fit. Their email read

"I have a youngster that I'm breaking in who will be available very soon. He is 14.hh and still growing"

I immediately went to look at him, knowing full well that I would probably be disappointed. I was right. He was too young, too green.

Shortly after another disappointing meeting I met Jackson on May 26th, 2012.

The Perfect Horse

I immediately fell in love with Jackson. He was perfect. The owner had a tough time catching him, but when I arrived he came over to me instantly. We tacked him up and went out for our first hack. I prepared for the worst and it didn't go to well. He was cautious of everything and became terrified when a train passed near us. After about 15 minutes of riding we began to become comfortable with each other and we both started to relax.

The Perfect Horse

Jackson isn't technically 'my perfect horse' but I love him. Since I've had him I no longer cry at the mention of Toff. I can even talk about Toff without bursting into tears! That shows to me that Jackson has filled the hole in my heart that was left when I said goodbye to Toff.
