My Little Lion Man

As some of you know, a few months ago I got a new horse. Well, I am going to tell you the story of my precious Oliver.
When Oliver first came, he was emaciated, smelled like cat urine, and had so much dandruff that if you stroked him you would get a handful of snowflakes. Oliver stayed but he had no one to take care of him. He looked depressed. No one has ever loved him, and it was sad to know even here someone might not love him. He stayed like this for a few more weeks, then things took the turn for the worst.
One day I went into the barn to feed the horses. Just when I went to go feed Oliver his hay, I saw a pool of blood in Oliver's feed bucket. The blood was about two inches deep. It looked like a massacre in his stall. The gates were blanketed in blood. I finally found Oliver. He had a huge hole in his face. He looked faint and had blood all over his face. I rushed to get my trainer. My trainer grabbed him and called the vet. The vet said that he lost a lot of blood and we found out that he caught himself on the neighbor's fence.
After that incident, life was a little better for Oliver. He had a better
stall and his wound was healing nicely. But he was still depressed. Later, my two trainers told me that it was time to move on with Smokey and ride a more experienced horse. And that horse happened to be Oliver. I didn't want to move on, I loved Smokey too much! He was my first horse! I refused to ride Oliver for a few days, but I finally gave up and soon realized I needed to move on. I knew I wasn't going to improve so I took my chance with Oliver.
The first few weeks with Oliver were rocky. At first I hated Oliver. He was different and I hated change. But as the weeks went by I started to get the hang of him. I really started to love this horse and he started to love me back. When working with Oliver I came to the conclusion that all Oliver wanted was to be loved. And that's what I wanted too.
Two months later we became best friends! Now Oliver follows me wherever I go. Oliver is my Little Lion Man. |
