Horse Video of Paddy After Some Training
 By Kaori   •   15th Dec 2012   •   2,196 views   •   2 comments
Some people might remember my excitement when Paddy arrived three months ago. This is a little video on how he's coming along with his jumping and trust issues.

I bought Paddy from a dealer after he had bolted with a young girl, who unfortunately broke her arm falling off him. He had never been clipped, rugged or stabled, and only knew basic walk, trot and turn when riding. His groundwork was non-existent, he was very nippy, and occasionally threatened to kick. He barged into everyone and everything.

He used to bolt almost every time I mounted. Twice, I fell off because I didn't have time to adjust my girth. Thanks to the advice from Polo the Weirdo, this improved after only a few weeks. Although he's still very forward going after I get on, he is happy to stay still and wait while I mount and tighten my girth. For the last three months, I've been working on his canter (the intentional kind) and pole-work under the saddle, his jump on the lunge, and general respect on the ground. The video shows how far he's come.

Why Are You Upgrading To A Stronger Bit
21st Jul 2013   |   Horse Training   |   Kaori
It's a pretty logical situation. The horse gets strong, the rider looses confidence, and therefore buys a stronger bit so they feel in control. When I put it like this, you're probably thinking they should just learn to ride, not ...
