Derby Winner Foals Slaughtered in South Korea Race Industry

No matter what you think of PETA, thereís no doubt that the cruelty seen in this video of horses in a South Korean slaughter house is not overstated. As the popularity of horse racing increases in South Korea, so has the number of horses that are sent for slaughter. Most sources claim the number of horses slaughtered has tripled. And while most of the horses are raised for that purpose, several Thoroughbreds, some bought for tens of thousands in the U.S. have ended up in a South Korean slaughterhouse.

The Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs has promoted horses as a way to revitalize rural agriculture. Horses have multiple uses, unlike animals raised only for meat. The Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs is actively promoting the consumption of horse meat and cites a study showing 65% of South Koreans are willing to eat horse meat.

The video, which shows the handling of horses going to slaughter is very disturbing.
