Santa Anita Racing Investigation Ordered by Newsome
 By Winniefield Park   •   22nd Jun 2019   •   603 views   •   0 comments

Governor Newsome of California is calling for a moratorium on racing until all horses have been examined by an independent team of experts. Despite calls to close down the track and suspend racing following the 29th horse death on the track since December 26, 2018, racing has continued while the protocol is put in place.

Horse racing on the Santa Anita track will be subject to examination by a five person review board. The horse’s medical records, race history and physical exams that may include PET scans could be used to determine if any horse is at an elevated risk of injury during a race. If any one person on the review board questions the horse’s fitness to run it will be taken out of the race.

While Governor Newsome may be saying ‘enough is enough’ track goers and horseman point out that overall, the number of horse deaths are down. And many claim as the racing season comes to an end there, it’s just an unfortunate part of the game.
