Members of the Tennessee Walking Horse community are concerned that a passing of a bill before the U.S. congress would be detrimental to their industry. PAST or Prevent All Soring Tactics would amend previous legislation and change the inspection system, penalization of offenders, and enforcement of laws governing horses shown at TWH shows. Those within the industry say that the law goes too far and would disallow much of the equipment, like heavily weighted shoes, that trainers use to encourage the horses to gait in the desired manner.
Animal activists claim though, that it’s time to leave the chains and weighted footwear behind. The vote in the United States House of Representatives took place on July 24, but was postponed to a later date.
