Wild Horses Weather Hurricane Dorian Well
 By Winniefield Park   •   8th Sep 2019   •   154 views   •   0 comments

As Hurricane Dorian batters the U.S. eastern seaboard, many people worry about the safety of not only their own animals, but wildlife as well. But, says the Corolla Horse Fund, a protection group that protects a small herd of feral horses, descendants of Colonial Spanish Mustangs that live on northernmost Currituck Outer Bank, these animals are not in danger. These herds, they claim, have been withstanding similar storms for several centuries. The horses instinctively know to stay on higher ground where there is shelter how to forage for food.

But they also donít leave anything to chance. The rescue farm operated by the organization put out extra hay and topped up water troughs and other supplies. While volunteers stayed at the farm, others have kept an eye on the wild herd, just in case.
