Another Caleche Horse Collapses Weeks Before Ban
 By Winniefield Park   •   9th Nov 2019   •   1,390 views   •   0 comments

Calèche horses in the city of Montreal are again in the focus of animal rights activists. This time a horse slipped as it crossed a metal plate and ended up lying on its side in the street. Although the police found no abuse of the animal and the SPCA is aware of the incident, the Anti-Calèche Defense Coalition is calling for a closer look at the incident.

These are the last few months that the calèche horses will be pulling tourists through the historic treats of that city. The use of horse drawn calèches will be banned as of December 31, 2019. The SPCA and other organizations have arranged some compensation to the operators for their horses and will help place the them in retirement shelters or with qualifying families.
