The Bell Ringing Salvation Army Horse
 By Winniefield Park   •   7th Dec 2019   •   319 views   •   0 comments

Most of us are familiar with the sound of the bells rung by Salvation Army volunteers collecting donations as they run their annual red kettle drive throughout the Christmas season. Itís a tradition that goes back to 1891 when a Salvation Army officer asked the city of San Francisco permission to collect donations for the poor in a crab pot.

Now kettle drives are held world-wide and for the past two holiday season, a special bell ringer has volunteered in central Kentucky. Hank the bell ringing horse has been helping those in need through his fundraising efforts. Hank has learned to ring the bell to the delight of all who meet him. During the Christmas season, Hank is making appearances, along with his pasture-mate, a miniature horse named Sugar throughout the season to raise money for his own Salvation Army drive.
