Covid19, the new coronavirus that has turned into a global pandemic is affecting almost everything and certainly dominating the news. It’s likely to be that way for weeks, and possibly months to come. Coronaviruses take up residence in the lungs, and are zoonotic, which means they can be transmitted by animals. A rare coronavirus recently appeared in Arizona. A horse has been diagnosed with equine coronavirus. It’s thought the virus is transmitted through manure. It’s being called an isolated case, but owners are being advised to watch for signs of illness, but not to worry about catching the virus from their horses.
A zoonotic disease is one that can be passed between animal species. If you pick up certain types of microbes from your horse, it’s possible that you too might be affected by that bacteria. Again, it’s really rare for this to happen, but there are times when you should be diligent about basic hygiene and use common sense. And, here are the more common zoonotic diseases you should know about. Click here for List of Diseases Humans Can Catch From Horses
